ASPCA

Founded in 1866, the ASPCA was the first humane organization in the Western Hemisphere. Their mission, as stated by founder Henry Bergh, is “to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.” While there are SPCAs and humane societies all over the country, the ASPCA is not directly affiliated with them. However, the ASPCA works nationally to rescue animals from abuse, pass humane laws and share resources with many shelters across the country.

Alley Cat Allies

Alley Cat Allies is the only national advocacy organization dedicated to the protection and humane treatment of cats. An engine for social change, Alley Cat Allies was the first organization to introduce and advocate for humane methods of feral cat care, particularly Trap-Neuter-Return, in the American animal protection community. By establishing and promoting standards of care, our organization has brought humane treatment of cats into the national spotlight, now embraced by major cities and animal protection organizations coast to coast. In 20 short years, we’ve changed America to better understand and respect the lives of cats.

Animal Rescue Coaltion

THE ANIMAL RESCUE COALITION (ARC) was founded in 1999 by Ira Barsky and Ed Sarbey when they brought together leaders from local animal welfare organizations as well as Sarasota County Animal Services to collaborate and develop a plan to end the killing of adoptable dogs and cats in the area. The most significant aspect of this initiative has been the purchase of the ARC Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic in 2002 which, to date, has spayed and neutered nearly 35,000 dogs and cats, thereby substantially reducing pet overpopulation in our community. Countless generations of innocent puppies and kittens have been saved from entering a world with no homes for them. Despite significant progress, there is still much work to do.

Animals In Distress

Animals in Distress is a 501c3, all volunteer, non-profit organization that has serviced the Mercer County area for more than 30 years. As one of the oldest rescue groups in the area, our primary focus has been the rescue of abandoned, abused and neglected cats and kittens.

Best Friends

Nearly 30 years ago, when Best Friends helped pioneer the no-kill movement, more than 17 million homeless pets were dying each year in our nation’s shelters. Today, that number is down to around four million unnecessary deaths annually – that is tremendous progress, but Best Friends is committed to reducing that number to zero. By implementing targeted spay/neuter and TNR programs to reduce the number of animals who enter shelters, and by increasing the number of people who adopt pets, we know we can end the killing. We know we can Save Them All.

Friends of Feral Felines

FoFF is an all-volunteer organization that depends on your support to allow us to continue to help Maine’s most needy and neglected cats. People regularly tell us “I called several places, and no one, except you, would help!” We want to continue to be there to end the suffering of feral cats by stabilizing colonies and finding homes for adoptable, rescued cats and kittens. And we will be, with your generous support.

Good Search

Goodsearch started as an idea…and now it has turned into a movement. More than 15 million people used Goodsearch last year to support more than 100,000 non-profits and schools. Since 2006, Goodsearch users have raised more than $9 million, participated in over 1.1 billion charitable actions, and have truly made a difference.

Hugs for Homeless Animals

The plight of homeless and displaced animals is astronomical. Shelters today are overcrowded. Domestic animals are left on the roadside to fend for themselves. Pet shops and breeders continue to sell animals to the general public without regard to conditions or quality of life after they leave their doors. It is up to all of us to make this world a better place for domestic animals.

Have A Heart

The mission of the HAVE A HEART ADOPT A PET FOUNDATION INC. is national in scope but is designed to function on the community level. The Foundation’s programs will have direct impact in saving the lives of lost, homeless, abandoned and abused sheltered pets that are needlessly euthanized. The Foundation will focus on educating, encouraging and supporting the adoption of sheltered pets through public-private partnership. This unique alliance of local government, community residents, schools and concerned businesses will seek to abolish the use of animal sheltering as a means to the end of so many precious lives. The Foundation’s programs will be replicable and can therefore, be used to produce systematic change nationwide.
